We nurture our GREEN GRADS and follow their stories
GREEN GRADS is an ongoing UK initiative founded and curated by multi-award-winning design journalist Barbara Chandler, known for her long-running pages in the London Evening Standard, to platform UK graduates engaging with eco-issues, such as sustainability, climate change, circular production, waste and pollution, diminishing resources, biophilia, bio-diversity and much more.
AMBITION
To identify, promote and enable a new generation of UK graduate eco-activists, linking them with manufacturers, design practices, shops, galleries, the media/Internet and the public at large.
WHAT WE DO
We put on shows and help our GREEN GRADS to display their projects and products, and – crucially -arrange for them to be there in person to interact with visitors. Through this, our GREEN GRADS develop presentation and communication skills, and grow in confidence. They network and support each other. We introduce them to new audiences, creating opportunities to further their ideas and ambitions. We hold informal “salons” for further discussion and debate, and invite special guests to contribute experience and expertise. We run this website, our Instagram feed @greengradsuk, and our YouTube channel, and encourage our GREEN GRADS to get in touch for support and advice.
HOW WE WORK
We visit universities and degree shows to track down our GREEN GRADS and curate from BA and MA courses across all disciplines, including art, architecture, engineering, interior design, product and furniture design, ceramics, glass, graphics, textiles, communication, systems and more. Our main cohort each year for our autumn shows have graduated that year, but we can consider graduates from the past three years.
GREEN GRADS operates on a not-for-profit basis. Our visionary industry sponsors finance our shows and other events, Awards, website and so on.
